Application for Federal Grant Support
To Establish Hospital Telepharmacy Services
"North Dakota Telepharmacy Project"

Dear Prospective Telepharmacy Project Partner:

The NDSU College of Pharmacy, Nursing, and Allied Sciences has received a federal grant from the Office for the Advancement of Telehealth (OAT), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for a project entitled, "The North Dakota Telepharmacy Project."  This grant is designed to provide financial assistance to restore, retain, or establish pharmacy services in medically underserved remote rural communities in North Dakota.   Through use of telepharmacy technology, a licensed pharmacist at a central pharmacy site is able to supervise a registered pharmacy technician at a remote telepharmacy site in the processing of medication orders for patients thus providing rural hospitals with 24 hour access to pharmacist staffing and pharmacy services.

We are currently seeking project partners to join our efforts in implementing telepharmacy statewide as a solution to the current challenges facing rural hospitals in meeting their pharmacist staffing and pharmacy service needs.  In order for your facility to be considered for receiving federal support through an OAT grant for implementing telepharmacy services, we must receive from you a completed application for funding.  You will be providing information about: (1) your hospital; (2) your current pharmacy operation and personnel; (3) your community, including demographic data; and (4) your facility’s needs in terms of additional pharmacy services.

Please submit your completed application at your earliest convenience to Charles D. Peterson, Office of the Dean, NDSU College of Pharmacy, Nursing, and Allied Sciences, 1401 Albrecht Blvd, Fargo, ND 58105.  The application may be completed online and submitted electronically.  An application does not guarantee funding support, but constitutes an interest on the applicant’s part to be considered as a project partner for the federal grant.

Please contact Howard Anderson, Executive Director of the North Dakota Board of Pharmacy at (701) 328-9535 or ndboph@btinet.net, Ann Rathke at (701) 231-5863 or Ann.Rathke@ndsu.edu, or myself if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Charles D. Peterson, Pharm.D.
